Bhupinder Singh, why it’s worth attending electronica India and productronica India 2015

Please meet Mr. Bhupinder Singh, CMO & Member of the Management Board, MMI India Pvt. Ltd, Mumbai. We both met in May 2014 during the Messe München Welttagung, where I conducted a seminar (“Survival-Training”) on How to do Business with Germans.

ANDRA: Bhupinder, you must be excited about the upcoming trade fairs – electronica India and productronica India. Tell us, for whom is the fair the place to meet and why is that so?

Bhupinder Singh: Yes, I am indeed excited about the trade fairs. It alternates, between South India and North India every year. The major USP of the trade fairs are that they are the complete electronics manufacturing shows. electronica India and productronica India are perfect platform for key decision makers, buyers who want to source the updated technology/products for their electronics manufacturing business under one roof. Key industry leaders present their latest offerings to a wide range of audience from Government officials, MNCs and SMEs.

ANDRA: Another 4 weeks from now, on 9th September 2015, for three days the fair will open its gates at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. How is it going so far?

electronica India is India’s and South-Asia’s leading fair for electronic components, systems and applications. One important pillar to the trade fair is the communication platform for the electronics industry. Each year international decision makers get together discussing latest topics on the market. Bhupinder Singh: Preparations are going on in full swing and this year the fairs have shaped up well. The fairs would be more than 40% bigger compare the last Delhi edition. In the last many years, the trade fairs par excellence not only managed to get the electronics industry together but also established itself as a leading platform for the Indian and South-Asian electronics industry.

This year the trade-fairs are spread across 15,000+ sqms on which 320+ exhibitors would be presenting their products and solutions. We expect 16,000 plus trade visitors to visit the trade fairs. The scale and quality of the trade fairs have been increasing year-on-year.

ANDRA: I am impressed. To what extent are German companies and brands involved? What kind of companies are exhibiting and whom are you still missing?

Bhupinder Singh
: With the brand of our shows originating from Munich – Germany, all our shows have an international flavor. Like the previous editions, this year we will feature country pavilions from China, Germany, Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan and the UK. Participating firms span the entire electronics manufacturing spectrum – production equipment, SMT, EMS, components, assemblies, semiconductor and materials.

We have received participation from key leading national and international companies, participants ranging from LEDs, semiconductors, automotive electronics, embedded electronics, SMT and more. Lastly, all I can say is, if you have business interest in the Indian market in electronic components manufacturing or production technology, and if you are not participating at electronica India and productronica India, you are missing a huge business opportunity which awaits you.

ANDRA: So if I have not yet decided whether to exhibit or not, would there still be a chance to register? What kind of assistance are you offering to short-term applicants and whom should they get in touch with?

Bhupinder Singh: This year the trade-fairs space are already sold-out. For companies on the wait-list, we have to add another hall to increase our space to accommodate them. ANDRA: What about the visitors? What attracts them to the fair?

Bhupinder Singh: Visitor profile would mainly comprise of decision makers from Electrical Engineering & Electronics, Information Technology, Automotive Industry, Communication Technology, Consumer Technology, Machinery & Plant Construction, Medical Technology, Aviation & Space Technology, Quality Control and others.

electronica India and productronica India are not just trade fairs. They are the platform to engage, learn and innovate. Along with the trade-fairs there are other various concurrent programs like Buyer-Seller meetings, Business to Government and conferences like – Deftronics, IOT (Internet of Things), IPC India, embed Asia and Smart Automation for SMEs. These conferences are addressed by renowned experts and industry leaders making the trade-fairs a must visit.

ANDRA: Are there any special occasions for Germans to meet Indian entrepreneurs? What about language, I guess one can survive with a modest knowledge of English?

Bhupinder Singh: Definitely yes, as mentioned earlier, we are a global brand, adapted to local market. The German pavilion does organise its special networking evening to meet and greet the Indian entrepreneurs and other nationals present at the exhibition. One can easily survive with a modest knowledge of English; we have Chinese and Japanese participants as well who successfully conduct business at the trade fairs without any language hurdle. Apart from that, German companies can also participate in Buyer-Seller meetings and Business to Government forums to discuss opportunities in India.

ANDRA: Talking about my fellow countrymen from Germany… What would you recommend they should do in the evenings? You told me you have been born and brought up in Delhi — are there any special (fun) places to visit or restaurants to go to? Would every restaurant serve alcohol and what about vegetarian food?

Bhupinder Singh: Delhi is known for its good food. If you are visiting Delhi, one should definitely try local foods like Parantha with Dahi (wheat bread filled with mashed potatoes and curd), Delhi chaat (fried wafers loaded with potatoes, chickpeas, yoghurt and chilli) and many others. There is also the famous Red Fort from the Mughal Empire and the British Era. One can also take a walk in the Mughal Gardens near to Humayuns Tomb, you can also wander around Lodhi Gardens.

The newly constructed expressway at Greaternoida i.e. would take you to the Taj Mahal in 2.5 hrs, one of the wonders of the world.

For shopaholics, there are various hi-fi malls at Gurgaon where they can quench their thirst for Indian outfits/products or one can also shop at the local Khan market, Delhi Haat, Sarojini Nagar for some street shopping.

ANDRA: Any other practical advice for foreigners, who might be in Delhi for the very first time? E.g. what would the temperatures be like? Any recommendations for suitcase-packing?

Bhupinder Singh: The weather in Delhi during September would be comfortable, however a little on the warmer side. The evenings would be pleasant. So overall, a perfect time to do business and other outdoor activities.
